Swedish body massage

Swedish massage is a whole-body therapeutic massage treatment that works the soft tissues and muscles to help restore health - creating a calming and balancing effect on the nervous system.

The massage therapist will use five main types of massage techniques in a Swedish massage: stroking and gliding; kneading; rubbing; tapping or pounding; vibration

What are the benefits of Swedish massage?

The various Swedish massage techniques, created by the Father of Swedish Massage, Per Henrik Ling, are designed to improve your circulation, soothe your muscles and make you feel more relaxed.

Unlike deep tissue massage, Swedish massage therapy uses softer strokes on the bonier and more delicate parts of the body, and stronger strokes where there is thicker muscle coverage. This adjustment of pressure makes it an ideal massage for relaxation.

Best known for soothing tight muscles and boosting well-being, Swedish massage also offers a whole host of other health benefits, including:

  • easing muscular strain by flushing out toxins
  • improving blood circulation and blow flow throughout the body
  • helping to keep ligaments and tendons supple and improving range of motion
  • reducing emotional and physical stress easing back pain and chronic

Cupping therapy

Cupping therapy is a traditional Chinese and Middle Eastern practice used to treat a variety of conditions.

There is some evidence to suggest that cupping therapy may be beneficial for certain health conditions. However, research into cupping therapy tends to be of low quality. More studies are necessary to understand how cupping therapy works, if it works, and situations where it may help.

Cupping involves placing cups at certain points on a person’s skin. A practitioner creates suction in the cups, which pulls against the skin.

Many believe that cupping helps balance yin and yang, or the negative and positive, within the body. Restoring balance between these two extremes is thought to help with the body’s resistance to pathogens as well as its ability to increase blood flow and reduce pain.

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

People use cupping to complement their care for a host of symptoms and conditions.

Scalp massage

A scalp massage is similar to a massage you’d get for your neck, back, or body. However, a scalp massage is usually done a little more gently. It’s usually done without oil, but you can include it if you prefer.

A typical scalp massage uses the fingertips only. There’s also the option of using a scalp massaging device that works to mimic the pressure of your fingertips.

A head massage feels fabulous. In addition to the sensory pleasure it offers, a head massage may ease symptoms of a headache, reduce stress, and possibly boost hair growth, too.
